You are talented. You are brave. You are stronger than you know. You are full of infinite possibilities and potential. And I am here to remind you of that power. Regardless of how you label yourself, or how you think others label you, YOU are greatness. You control your thoughts. This is worth repeating: you control your thoughts. We so, so often forget that this is not the other way around. “Change your thoughts, change your life.” We have heard it all before. So why do we forget? Because it is easier to forget than to face it. It is easier to cling to old habits, old stories, old constructs, old ideals, old expectations. It is easier to live in the past, a place we know, a place we have a been, a place that feels so uncomfortable that it provides us with comfort.
We have to know we are more than that. We are more than our names. We are more than our titles. Our jobs. Our rent. More than our expectations (a dangerous place). We are all we need in any given moment.
But sometimes, it can be hard to take our own advice. All of the grounding incense, lavender candles, camomile tea, and fancy journals can't help you if you thoughts and actions aren't in alignment. In those moments, get real. Feel whatever yucky stuff you are feeling. If you want to write, write. If you want to scream, scream. And by all means, if you want to curl up in a ball and cry, cry. Because you are perfect. You don't have to get there because you already are there. You have arrived. This is your moment. Own it. Feel it. Listen to yourself. You are brilliant. You know exactly what you need.
Once you feel it all and get really worn out, take a deep breath, pick yourself up and move forward. Have a tall glass of water, and draw a bath. Or paint a picture. Or call a friend. Or go for a run. Or take a nap.
No judgment. No guilt. No trying to figure yourself out. No labeling. No explaining. Because you are perfect. Give yourself a big internal hug and take the next step. Move onward and upward. Because that is where the really great stuff happens. In the moment. Just outside the familiar and the comfortable.
You are beautiful. You are joy. You are a gift that the world needs. You matter to someone. Your priority is the health and well-being of your emotional and physical self.
I like to think that this gets easier. But I am not sure. I guess it isn't about anything getting easier, it is about acceptance. Its about accepting ourselves the way we accept others. Its about embracing all aspects of ourselves. And its about not being so damn hard on ourselves all the time. And its about getting real. Getting honest. Getting vulnerable. As with anything, it takes practice.
You are enough exactly as you are. And you deserve love.
